Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is a powerful tool that enhances rapid assessment, diagnosis, and procedural safety in acute care. This presentation uses a case study of a patient presenting to the emergency department (ED) with dyspnea after a fall, illustrating how POCUS supports evaluation and clinical decision-making from the ED to the ICU and later to the inpatient floor. Participants will see how POCUS expedites diagnosis, guides treatment, and improves continuity of care across settings. The session will also emphasize the role of POCUS in procedures such as central line placement, arterial line insertion, thoracentesis, and paracentesis. Nurse practitioners will gain practical strategies for maximizing the use of POCUS and recognize appropriate indications, limitations, and professional considerations to improve efficiency and patient outcomes.
