Accidental poisoning and overdoses contribute significantly to overall morbidity, mortality, and health care expenditures. It is important to understand that ingestions and poisonings can produce a wide range of symptoms and clinical findings, which may occur in isolation or in conjunction with other health issues like, vitamin deficiencies, heart problems, or history of seizures. In this engaging presentation, we will investigate case studies supporting a general approach to and initial management of individuals with suspected or confirmed poisonings. This course provides you with knowledge to assess the differences between agents ingested and decipher if it’s a case involving prescription, over-the-counter, or herbal medication. In addition, this session covers the importance of examining whether ingestion is acute or chronic.
This course also includes management of:
- Common drug ingestions and overdoses
- Critically ill adult/pediatric individuals with unknown ingestions/poisonings
- Local Anesthetic Systemic Toxicity (LAST)
