Stroke care has evolved significantly over the last two decades, offering early and advanced treatment options for patients. Although care for the stroke patient has historically focused on IV thrombolytic therapies, research over the last 10 years has provided advanced guidelines and innovative strategies for the care and management of this patient population.
This presentation will include a review of the guidelines for workup and therapy options for hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke. As patients move from the emergency department to the ICU and into long-term recovery, it is critical for the nurse practitioner (NP) to understand new treatment options, as well as the emerging roles for the NP in the field of stroke care.
