Nurse practitioners have been providing care in hospitals for more than 45 years. While approximately 9% of all NPs are certified in acute care, as many as 15% work in hospitals. In an environment that is characterized by highly vulnerable patients, rapid change, and technological complexity, stress, burnout, and workforce shortages may take a toll. The growing population of older adults and increasing use of technologies are ever present issues. In this presentation, you will be provided with key data and the guidance to strengthen leadership skills that are needed to achieve optimal integration and utilization of NPs in this demanding environment.
This CE offering will focus on the following:
• Evaluating and contextualizing historical and current data on nurse practitioners in acute care
• Acute care workforce issues
• NP practice trends
• Challenges facing NP integration into hospital and critical care
