Pediatric Vaccinations: Are you up to date?

Initiation and maintenance of immunizations in children is a key step in preventing the spread of infectious disease. In parts of the US, it is estimated that fewer than 50% of children are up to date on vaccinations. In this presentation, vaccines and catch-up schedules for children and adolescents are discussed, which include current CDC guidelines for high-risk groups (e.g., children with chronic heart or lung conditions). Side effects and adverse reactions to vaccines are also considered.

Objectives: Following this presentation, the participant will be able to:

  1. Identify current recommendations for vaccinations in children and adolescents
  2. Discuss common reactions, side effects, and adverse effects of vaccines and immunizations
  3. Identify modified and catch-up vaccination schedules to use in special populations
