Sara Jones, PhD, APRN, PMHNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN, is an Associate Professor and Specialty Coordinator of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science (UAMS) College of Nursing in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Dr. Jones received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and began practicing as a psychiatric nurse in 2005. She completed a PhD in nursing science in 2010 and, in 2013, post-graduate studies to board-certify as a PMHNP. In 2009, she began serving as faculty at the UAMS College of Nursing. She became coordinator of the PMHNP program in 2013.
Dr. Jones’s research has always been dedicated to individuals who experience trauma. Since 2016, her research has focused on improving mental health services for first responders. In 2019, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) granted her an R21 for her research, “Building Partnerships with First Responders to Explore Strategies to Improve Delivery and Access of Mental Health Services.” With continued efforts, she hopes to obtain continued funding from NIMH or the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Dr. Jones also owns Journey Wellness Clinic, PLLC, in North Little Rock, where she sees individuals across the life span with varying mental health conditions. She specializes in pediatric populations and individuals that have experienced trauma.
Dr. Jones is a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, was Member-at Large on the Board of Directors (2017-2020), and was the inaugural president of the Arkansas chapter (2013-2017). She is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty, and the Southern Nurses Research Society. In 2019, Dr. Jones was inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
