Patricia Larrieu Briones, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, CHSE, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is also a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator. Dr. Briones earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Miami, a Master of Science degree in Nursing from Barry University and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Florida.
Dr. Briones has over 21 years of professional clinical experience in varying acute care. Her expertise is in managing acute and chronic illness in the outpatient setting. In 2001 she joined the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami and has practiced in varying specialties including the following: orthopedic oncology, nephrology, interventional nephrology, neurosurgery, and the UHealth Walgreens family retail clinics. She currently practices at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in the Department of Neurological Surgery.
Dr. Briones teaches in the BSN-DNP Nurse Anesthesia Track and the Family, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care, and Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Programs. She also teaches simulation and health assessment/skills lab. Dr. Briones has presented regionally, nationally and internationally (in Spanish). In addition, she has created educational programs and patient education material, as well as solicited grant funds to create an international academic exchange educational program. She has authored and co-authored manuscripts, abstracts and posters. Her passion is translating evidence-based medicine into the didactic arena with the goal of educating and mentoring the new generation of providers to be competent and successful in practice.
