Mary Hickey, EdD, WHNP-BC, FNP-BC, is a Professor at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University College of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Hickey is an accomplished educator, with expertise in curriculum design, educational innovation, and clinical teaching. She has taught at all levels of nursing education, published and presented, and consulted on national and international initiatives to improve and advance nursing practice. Dr. Hickey has a strong record of inter-professional collaboration and is continuing those partnerships at University Hospital of Brooklyn and affiliates.
Dr. Hickey’s clinical expertise as a women’s health nurse practitioner led to her work in sexual and reproductive health. She has conducted pilot studies on access and use of emergency contraception, unintended pregnancy, and sexual risk-taking behaviors.
Dr. Hickey has also explored reproductive care for women with disabilities. Her expertise in this area earned her the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health (NPWH) Inspiration in Education award in 2020. Dr. Hickey maintains an active practice as a WHNP on Long Island in New York.
