Mary Anne Dumas, PhD, FNP-BC, GNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN, FNAP, is a nationally recognized and outstandingly accomplished nurse practitioner (NP) who has made substantial contributions in nursing throughout her entire career. Her dedication spans serving as a U.S. Navy Nurse, primary care nurse practitioner provider, educator, professor, administrator, and curriculum design expert.
Dr. Dumas is committed to service and advocating for NPs. She has served as the President of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF), Secretary of the Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP), and as Co-Chair of the Expert Panel on Military & Veterans Health of the American Academy of Nursing. She has also been a member of the American Nurses Credential Center Commission on Accreditation, a Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Founders Award Head Judge, member of the Defense Health Board’s Medical Ethics Subcommittee, and Vice Chair of the American Nurses Association’s Individual Members Division.
Dr. Dumas has spent many years of her career devoted to NP education. She has taught NP students at Stony Brook University (SBU), established the Hofstra Northwell School of Graduate Nursing, and developed two NP programs. She also served as an Academic Dean, Professor, and NP Program Chair. Additionally, Dr. Dumas is the editor and co-author of the NONPF Preceptor Manual and is presently collaborating on the development of an NP Program Director’s Manual.
Not surprisingly, Dr. Dumas has received several prestigious awards in education including the STTI Founders Award for Excellence in Education, the NONPF Outstanding Educator Award, the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, the SBU President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching Award, the AANP’s Sharp Cutting Edge Award, and a DHHS Primary Care Fellowship.
