Kathleen P. Wilson, PhD, PNP-BC, FNP-BC, CPNP-PC, is a long-standing contributing member of the faculty for Barkley & Associates, Inc. Since 2003, she has been preparing NP students to successfully complete their certification exams while enriching those seeking an update for current advance practice in pediatric and family practice. As an engaging speaker and knowledgeable practitioner, she consistently receives superior ratings from those attending her sessions.
Dr. Wilson is nationally dually certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP and PNP-BC), as well as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP–BC). She has held positions in education, practice (PNP and FNP), research, administration, and consultancies with extensive experience in adolescent health, behavioral health, management of children/youth with special needs, and community program development. She formerly coordinated graduate level nursing programs: the Pediatric Advanced Nursing Program (combined PNP and CNS roles) at Emory University/Atlanta followed by the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at Georgia State University/Atlanta. Her area of research is in adolescent risk behavior reduction, preventive health care modalities across the life span, and community participatory research. She has published articles in several journals, including Family & Community Health: The Journal of Health Promotion and Maintenance, Journal of Pediatric Nursing, and the Journal of Pediatric Health Care. She presents frequently at national and international conferences on adolescent and family health. She continues to mentor graduate (Master’s and PhD) students in the clinical and research arenas and serving on their master’s and doctoral committees. She recently contributed to the development of a DNP program at both Florida State University and Walden University. She joined Walden University in March 2009 as a contributing faculty member where she teaches a number of courses in the RN-MSN and MSN (Nursing Education and Leadership/Management programs) and the DNP program.
Currently, she is in private practice at HCA’s Capital Regional Medical Group specializing in family practice and chronic care. She shares that her greatest teachers are her professional colleagues and patients from whom she learns the most.
