What? My Patient has Heart Failure?
What Not To Miss, And Now What?

This session will present the pathophysiology of heart failure focusing on heart failure with a reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) in comparison to heart failure with a preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). The differences in presenting signs and symptoms of HFrEF and HFpEF, as well as the differences in current guidelines for treatment, will also be discussed. Specific aspects related to important signs, symptoms, and diagnostic studies will be emphasized, as well the latest ACC/AHA/HFSA guidelines and implications for the NP who is managing these patients in hospital and outpatient settings. The presentation will conclude with new treatment modalities on the horizon that may help to reduce readmission rates, as well as improve patient outcomes.
