Challenging Cases in Trauma

The focus of this session will be challenging case studies in adult trauma care, specifically highlighting the multidisciplinary care required of the acutely injured. Topics for discussion include management of patients with solid abdominal organ injury, patients with retained hemothorax following blunt chest injury, management of patients with blunt cerebrovascular injury, among others. The critical, initial evaluation of the trauma patient, diagnostic modalities, and a review of evidence-based practice management guidelines will be highlighted. Further, the role of the acute care nurse practitioner and the importance of outpatient follow-up will also be addressed.
