Differential Diagnosis Across the Life Span: Differential Diagnosis of Common Gastrointestinal Disorders Part 1: Infectious Gastrointestinal Issues and Inflammatory Gastrointestinal Disorders

The nurse practitioner treating a patient with abdominal or gastrointestinal complaints has a wide variety of differentials to consider. Among those considerations are gastrointestinal issues and inflammatory gastrointestinal disorders. This session covers several disorders falling under each of those categories and offers key details to augment the nurse practitioner’s discernment during the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.

With detailed discussion of disorders occurring in both acute and primary care settings, including pediatrics, this session is a well-rounded reference tool. The presentation’s content is supplemented by case studies and challenging multiple-choice questions to ensure your understanding and retention of the material. Analyzing signs and symptoms, utilizing appropriate labs and diagnostics for each condition, and providing multidisciplinary gastrointestinal care are all covered. After this session, the nurse practitioner will be able to manage the following disorders with increased confidence:

Infectious Gastrointestinal Issues

  • Gastroenteritis
  • Peptic ulcer disease
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease
  • Biliary dysfunction
  • Cholecystitis
  • Pancreatitis

Inflammatory Gastrointestinal Issues

  • Diverticulitis
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Peritonitis
  • Appendicitis

How it Works

  1. Log in at www.NPcourses.com
  2. Go to My Account in the upper right corner and click on Courses.
  3. Locate your Course in the list and click on it.
  4. Click on Access Course to proceed.
  5. PowerPoint handouts are available for every lecture under “Materials.” We strongly recommend that you download and print each lecture’s handout so that you may highlight and take notes as you view each video.
  6. Please note that there is information covered in the video lectures that will not be on the handouts, so you must watch the video in its entirety. It is very important to spend time studying all PowerPoint handouts and to watch all course lecture(s) before attempting to take the required quiz.
  7. Each quiz includes 5 items to complete in 10 minutes. Participants have a maximum of 3 attempts to pass each exam with a score of 70% or higher.
  8. After successful completion of the quiz, participants must complete a Course Evaluation.
  9. Upon submission of the Course Evaluation, your Continuing Education Certificate will appear for you to print and/or save in PDF format. We strongly recommend that you print or save the certificate immediately, as your certificate will not be stored in your account indefinitely.

Refunds are not allowed on any of Barkley & Associates’ products.
