Thomas
W. Barkley, Jr., DSN, ACNP-BC
is a Professor of Nursing and Director of Graduate and Nurse Practitioner Programs at
California State University, Los Angeles. Dr. Barkley has
over 12 years experience actively teaching in the
certification review continuing education business. Since
October, 2002, he has owned Barkley & Associates, a nation
wide nurse practitioner certification review/clinical update
continuing education company.
Dr.
Barkley’s clinical background and practice are in critical and
acute care nursing where he holds national certification as an
acute care nurse practitioner from the American Nurses
Credentialing Center. Dr. Barkley received his bachelor of
science in nursing degree from the University of Alabama, a
master’s degree in critical care nursing from the University
of Virginia, and holds the doctor of science in nursing degree
with a specialty in nursing education and nursing education
administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
In addition to his classroom and practice responsibilities,
Dr. Barkley is the primary editor of the American Journal of
Nursing Book-of-the-Year award-winning text,
Practice Guidelines for
Acute Care Nurse Practitioners, now in its second
edition.
He has also published numerous refereed articles related to
acute care nursing practice, nursing education, and
multicultural HIV/AIDS prevention.
While dually prepared as both an ACNP and ANP, Dr. Barkley
frequently presents numerous continuing education courses both
nationally and internationally,
with consistently outstanding evaluations. As
a dynamic and engaging speaker, he frequently co-presents with
other expert faculty in many of Barkley & Associates' courses. |
